  • Absolute Ripoff!

Denied my claim for HVAC failure/replacement,which was the only reason I purchased the policy which they originally said would cover the unit, because I could not produce records of maintenance from the previous homeowner. I was going to cancel the policy, but by the time they deducted all their mice-typed fees, hell, there was little to nothing to refund. So, I decided to keep it until it ran out. The garbage disposal went out. They elected to "buy out the claim" for $55, which they have still not paid after a month. I'm out $300. Jerks! Avoid like the plague. More...

  • Worse Service Ever!! Ripp Off!! BAD service!! DO NOT GET this company!!

I had a gas/oven main panel board, damaged/function. My service call was not returned , til I followed up after 7 days. They did not cover it, because theres is another 30 day exclusion, in very small print after your waiting period of another 30 day additional time frame. Theres so many exclusion afeter your 30 day waiting period, its impossible to find in all of there wording. Very rude to deal with any of their staff(cust service, management, supervisors etc.) They do not furnish you a phone number nor fax to cancel your policy, plus no contact beyond their cust serv no.And it takes 14... • STAY AWAY

I have had Conial Home Warranty for about 5 years. I had a couple small claims with no issues but i have not had a claim in over 3 years. I had a problem with my dryer and they are refusing the claim because they said i had a foil vent on it. I took pictures and had to have the tech they sent out write a letter stating it was not foil. I had to file an appeal and wait weeks. They then responded and said the dryer vent was not properly maintained and cleaned??? I have to appeal again. DO NOT do business with this company They will try to find ways not to pay their claims. Read other... More...

  • Don't do it at ANY price!

After having been with American Homeshield for 10 years, I shopped around and found Colonial. In comparing the policy, the CHW policy provided more coverage at a much lower price. I figured, "How bad could it be?" It has been horrible. I've needed them for two claims and both have been a massive and epic disaster. The latest claim was for my refrigerator. I filed it on December 3rd and finally called the vendor on 12/19 after hearing nothing. The vendor told me that they no longer do work with Colonial as they don't pay them, and when they do, it is very slow. It... More...

  • Terrible Service

Absolutely the worst. Totally regret getting sucked into purchasing the home warranty. I have submitted 3 different claims since I got this contract and NOTHING has been done. The first one was for my A/C unit. Took 3 referred contracts to finally come out. Now I have to come up with $600 for a leak inspection. Then another claim for my dishwasher. They referred 3 contractors and they either didn't call me, call me back or show up for an appt. Pending almost 2 months. The last claim was for my oven which started sparking on Thanksgiving day. One referred contractor never... More...

  • Colonial Home Warranty Complaint

Due to the fraudulent nature of this business, ( They called the manufacturer and claimed to be my husband) to get free parts and then wouldn't cover the cost to put the part in, I cancelled the policy. Also because it took them entire month to respond to the tech they sent out and I paid not to mention the customer service is rude and you are not able to speak to anyone above them. I filed a claim in May on repair of my AC unit. Colonial sent me two AC companies who they said could do the repair. Both companies said they would not work for this company as they were not paid for their work. (David) told me to get someone to fix the AC and send them a bill. I do so and have been hasseled for 5 months with every excuse they could come up with, They will not call you about the claim but just waite until you call them. These folks are COM MEN for sure. I fired up my AC last week and I heard a bang and no air. I called my home warranty company Colonial Home Warranty to file a claim, the technician was out that evening and came back the next day with a new fan for my AC. This was very good service and only had to pay a small service fee. The technician told me the fan was very expensive since he could not put a generic and they approved it with no problem. • Colonial finds every loop hole- read the fine print BEFORE you pay

I purchased Colonial's warranty for 2 homes. When I needed them 8 months into it, I found that none of our air conditioning companies wanted to work with them. It took them over 3 weeks in the first heat of summer to get someone out to look at my air conditioner. By the time they got someone there, the coolant had run out and the system was broken. When I called, it just was not as cool as it should have been, but it was working. They did not cover it because the coolant was supposedly leaking from the reverse valve, which they did not cover. Funny, the reverse valve is a major... More...

After doing a lot of research we were convinced by Marc Gold at Colonial Home Warranty that they had the best plan and a large list of technicians in my area. We signed up in April of 2013 and have been paying $69 per month. In August 1, 2013, we contacted Colonial and opened up two claims (#2166117 for the Range Oven and #216618 for the Clothes Washer). The claims were assigned first to Rose Appliance Sales who told us that they wanted to get paid upfront because they were not paid by Colonial in the past. • Kenmore broken part in washer.

This company is the biggest rip off around. DO NOT get involved with them. I tired to get a small part on my washing machine fixed and they told me it was under warranty - which is definitely is not as I checked with the manufacturer. The basket on the washer has a lifetime guarantee, but not any other part. This company's excuse was that as far as anything connected to the washer (any part), it is under the company warranty, (sound fishy to you??). This is the poorest excuse I've ever had of from a home warranty company - all they want is your money and then not fix things... More...

Very disappointed. I've had Colonial for a few years and never filed a claim. Had my A/C unit go out...very old unit and finally went. Hoping for the best, I got them involved and filed. Long story short...they kept asking me for documents and information until they could justify not covering anything. So I'm about $4500 to replace the unit they won't help. • Colonial Home Warranty lack of service / lack of paying for claims

Colonial Home warranty does EVERYTHING they can to not pay for service. It took a full week for them to review our request to have our A/C fixed, then deny service because we did not have our system cleaned twice a year - somewhere in fine print it says we need to properly have our system maintained and we failed by not having it serviced - on our nickel, twice a year. Will not renewal with Colonial Home Warranty. I was with AHS for 11 years and received good service. I did a little shopping before renewing with AHS. Colonial insured me that their warranty was just as good as AHS. A recent claim on a water heater they put me in contact with an approved vendor. After two days of not hearing from the plumber I called the plumber myself. The plumber said he no longer works for Colonial due to lack of payment and refusal to approve the necessary work. After contacting Colonial they said that they had no plumber contractors available. (Houston, Texas). Advised by Colonial to find a plumbing company on my own. Was told to pay my plumber and that they would reveiw the work before paying. I was not about to fall for that. Two weeks have gone by and the water heater has not been repaired.

NEVER EVER PURCHASE A HOME WARRANTY FROM THESE CROOKS

I have had a home warranty with Colonial for 2 years. I have called in maybe 3 claims all very small claims, however, my air and heat unit has a coil leak, that was diagnosed when I was having my twice yearly warranty work. I told the service techs that I had a home warranty and I would call them to fix the problem. When I called Colonial I was told I had to provide 2 years receipts for the warranty work on my unit. Once I supplied the documentation they requested I was told that they would not cover the claim.

They said that 2 of the receipts did not have dates, when I told them the phone number of the service company was on the receipt and that they could call them they said it was not their job (I was traveling and could not handle this at the moment). They called the other company that did the work in 2012 and drilled the owner of the company on what they did when they did the PM service on the unit.

So how is it they can call one company and not the other is beyond me. The company that did the 2012 service told the person who called from Colonial what they had done; the owner called me wanting to know what was going on after he got off the phone with Colonial? He stated that the "Rude" person from Colonial was questioning his abilities as a contractor to this kind of work. It incensed him to the point that he was curious as to why they would go to such lengths to try to trip him up on what was done....2 years ago.

Anyway when I spoke with a supervisor at Colonial he told me that the coil was rusted. I asked how the hell they could determine if the coil was rusted when they weren't even present when the PM was done. He stated that that is what Corporate said. Mind you, that this information was not on any of the receipts I sent to them. They have not even talked to the second company.

I am not one to be ripped off with out a fight so I started calling around Nashville talking to local AC/Heat company's that do business with Colonial and I was told by all these companies (6) "off the record" that Colonial will NOT pay a claim if it is over the amount of money of your contract.

I am without heat and this is the coldest winter in a Decade in Nashville. My next step is to contact my attorney and we are going to fight this. After reading what the BBB has to report about this company (520 complaints) and the bad deals on this page I am in an all out war to bring these people down. I am going to splash this all over the internet...this is one time that my abilities in social media are going to work in my favor.

The economy is bad enough without bad business practices from a company you pay upfront to insure your home. The people you talk to at Colonial are rude and out and out lie about the problem. I will not go away until they pay what they are contracted to pay. It is companies like this that should be put out of business.

Worst home warranty I've been exposed to. Read the fine print. They authorized a technician to resolve my clothes dryer that would not shut off. I paid the tech $60.00 and he determined that the thermostat was defective but could not find a data plate to order the part. Colonial called me and asked me to give them a Model No and S/N which I could not find. Then they sent me a letter stating that I agreed to accept $55.00 in lieu of making the repair which is a blatant lie. I did not accept the cash settlement as I would still have a defective clothes dryer. They are a devious company and should not be in business. I am also writing the Attorney General of Delaware to file a claim. Do not deal with this company as I have found that there others much better and honest.

Wordy, agressive and bullying are ways to describe the reps who will answer your claims request. They are inefficent and tardy in their responses.I had to call and call to get answers. They double talk and will grasp onto something they think can validate their refusal of the claim & talk over you when you are trying to explain.I think they make most of their money by getting new customers, keeping the money you paid and don't care if you cancel. They expect you to diagnos but if you do they will consider it a violation of the warranty. They use teleprompters. You cannot get access to corporate (red flag)They are NOT rated A with the BBB.I am going to go to my states Attorney General. The local appliance repair companies I spoke to who do business with Colonial say that 100% of the claims with COlonial have been denied.

So I called into Colonial to receive a quote, the representative answered my questions and was real knowledgeable. After a standard 30 day waiting period my washer stopped working. (Just my luck) I called the claims department and they assigned a contractor and emailed me their information. I called them and within a relatively short period of time they were out and while they were by my home they called in to get authorization and then fixed my appliance. The only cost to me was the co-pay. I was surprised and now i can be confident that i have actually have a company i can rely on. Its no secret who I recommend.

We signed up for Colonial Home warranty on November 7th, 2012. We were told that there was a 30 day waiting period before we would be eligible for filing any claims.
On the weekend of 8th the lights in our house started flickering for no reason, so I checked the electrical panel box for a blown fuse. I heard sparking sounds inside the panel and I decided to call the Home Warranty. The after hour service lady said their computers were down so she could not enter my information into the system for a claim. She said I could call a electrical contractor on my own and have the problem resolved and file a claim later. I knew a contractor and called him explaining the problem, read out the make and model of the electrical panel and was told by him that it was a 25 year old panel box which in all probability might have to be replaced due to age and wear-and-tear.
Monday, Dec 10th, someone from the Colonial Claims called and said a claim had been opened and assigned to a Supreme Electric company, Mr. Ron Lewis. He gave me the phone number to call the contractor myself. The contractor said he had not received any work order from Colonial as yet until which time he could not do a thing. At this point of time Colonial staff were Ok with covering the claim according to their own statements.
Once the contractor let Colonial know that the electrical panel box had to be replaced, Colonial Claims called me and said that I had to actually wait another month for me to be eligible to file a claim and that the one month wait period only started after the initial one month. That was their first excuse. Then he added that the work involved any entire system replacement and hence was not covered under warranty. This was not true since only the electrical panel was to be replaced. This was the second excuse. He also added that the Contractor had quoted an amount of $1600 which was beyond the limit of $1500 what Colonial promises to cover. This was the third excuse. Excuses, excuses, excuses. They are complete cheats.

Colonial Home Warranty is really terrable to do business with. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and buy your warranty from another firm.

I have 5 properties with them.
They have never paid a claim. The last one is unbelvable.

The garage door opener broke. They called a local contractor to repair it. It could not be repaired, they should then replace the system . . . well listen to this. They claim the orders for them to get the openers is delayed and they can not give me an "eta" on when they will have the openers. So, listen to this, they will give me $170.00 to get a new motor and have it installed. I check with the local company that they sent out and was told that the motor and instaltion would be $350.00. Understand that the actuall company in our area does have the motors and they can not understand why Colonial even orders the motors. The local repair company has them and never has Colonial ever sent them a motor.

I went around and around with Colonial and they said that was it . . .

I will be cancelling all my policies and have them return the unearned premiums. Of course Colonial will charge me $50.00 per policy to cancell.

I just can not bring myself to do business with such a dishonest firm.

Stay away from them. Really dishonest.

I filed claims for three appliances in August and they have refused to repair two of them. What's worse is that they didn't even bother to call and tell me. I thought the Contractor was waiting for parts, but all the while, Colonial had refused to authorize the repairs. They flat-out refused to repair one of the appliances, stating that I did not notify them of the problem in a timely manner. Really? They offered me a cash payout for the other appliance--a front loading, high capacity, high efficiency washer. They offered me $200 and said it was their cost for a comparable product. When I asked what the brand was and where I could get it, they blithely informed me that I could not get it at that price, because that was their special pricing. Yet, that is what they were offering me. They would not replace the product (as specified in the User Agreement,)but wanted to give me $200 for an $800 washing machine.

At best, Colonial Home Warranty is a dishonorable company. At worst, they are running one heck of a scam!

I got a home warranty plan with Colonial Home Warranty in Feb. 2012. It took effect end of March 2012. I called in a claim, and Colonial gave me the contractors phone number. i called him and he told me he did not have a contract with Colonial yet. He said he would call me, but never did. I called in another claim on 5-13-12. The same contractor finally looked at the issue on 5-14-12. I called the company repeatedly trying to find out the situation, and was blamed for not calling again to deal with the original claim that was never fulfilled. "It was my fault" I was told by Colonial. After getting no direct answers I finally decided to cancel my claim. After originally paying in full the 1 year service plan for $416.00, they are now going to refund me $190.00. What a ripoff. they did nothing for me and i just want to warn everyone, do not trust this company. They will not help you...But they take your money. I don't have money to give away and still have a backed up septic tank. It would have been decent if I was told even one time by their customer service department that they would like to resolve the issue, but no one did. Again, horrible company. If you hate your money do business with them. They will take advantage of you "their" customer. I am attempting legal action and warning everyone I can of this company. They will take advantage of you, and they have there paperwork to cover themselves. I just wanted someone to help and understand me and deal with me straight, but to no avail. Please don't do business with Colonial Home Warranty!!! You will regret it as I do!!!

Regarding kenlv.

Coverage on this customer's property went into effect on 9/26/2010. We reviewed a recorded sales conversation and there was no mention or discussion of maintenance on that call. Our full terms and conditions are mailed to the customer’s home within a few days of purchase, they are available online as well for anyone to review at www.colonialhomewarranty.com/useragreement.html.

The claim was entered on 10/1/2010 and was assigned to a technician on the spot. The technician reported that the compressor burnt out and the unit is only 7 years old. This was also reported to be the second unit in the home.

A representative spoke to the customer and requested maintenance records shortly after the diagnosis came in. The customer stated that he recently purchased the home and has no records. The representative asked for the home inspection report and was told by the customer that he never had the home inspected.

The customer purchased this home from a foreclosure sale on 9/1/2010. Public records show that this home was repossessed from the prior owner on 6/29/2010. The customer did not perform any maintenance nor was he able to obtain maintenance records from the prior owner. The customer did not have this home inspected by a licensed contractor stating the condition of the systems in the home. The only documentation the customer provided was a Home Appraisal report and a Real Estate walk through. The home appraisal report performed on 7/28/2010 only notes the presence of a central A/C system and that they assume no concealed damage exists. This is by no means a comprehensive assessment of systems in the home. The Real Estate walk through was administered and signed off by the customer on 8/23/2010, not under the supervision of a licensed home inspector or technician. The walk through also states Sold As Is which was handwritten in by the customer.
