  • Colonial Home Warranty is a RIP OFF

I am DONE with all home warranty companies and WOULD NOT recommend Colonial (also known as XPD) Home Warranty to my worst enemy. Our A/C unit not cooling downstairs so I called Colonial who sent out JRC Air Conditioning (also would NOT recommend) and was told it was the compressor. Long story short, CHW would not cover because they claimed the fins were bent and we didn't have maintenance records; just service records. (1) I hired my own technician to come out and the FINS were NOT bent (2) The compressor worked fine. It needed freon I spent $346.40 out of my own pocket for the... More...

  • Absolute Ripoff!

Denied my claim for HVAC failure/replacement,which was the only reason I purchased the policy which they originally said would cover the unit, because I could not produce records of maintenance from the previous homeowner. I was going to cancel the policy, but by the time they deducted all their mice-typed fees, hell, there was little to nothing to refund. So, I decided to keep it until it ran out. The garbage disposal went out. They elected to "buy out the claim" for $55, which they have still not paid after a month. I'm out $300. Jerks! Avoid like the plague. More...
  • Worse Service Ever!! Ripp Off!! BAD service!! DO NOT GET this company!!

I had a gas/oven main panel board, damaged/function. My service call was not returned , til I followed up after 7 days. They did not cover it, because theres is another 30 day exclusion, in very small print after your waiting period of another 30 day additional time frame. Theres so many exclusion afeter your 30 day waiting period, its impossible to find in all of there wording. Very rude to deal with any of their staff(cust service, management, supervisors etc.) They do not furnish you a phone number nor fax to cancel your policy, plus no contact beyond their cust serv no.And it takes 14... I have had Conial Home Warranty for about 5 years. I had a couple small claims with no issues but i have not had a claim in over 3 years. I had a problem with my dryer and they are refusing the claim because they said i had a foil vent on it. I took pictures and had to have the tech they sent out write a letter stating it was not foil. I had to file an appeal and wait weeks. They then responded and said the dryer vent was not properly maintained and cleaned??? I have to appeal again. DO NOT do business with this company They will try to find ways not to pay their claims. Read other... More...

  • Don't do it at ANY price!

After having been with American Homeshield for 10 years, I shopped around and found Colonial. In comparing the policy, the CHW policy provided more coverage at a much lower price. I figured, "How bad could it be?" It has been horrible. I've needed them for two claims and both have been a massive and epic disaster. The latest claim was for my refrigerator. I filed it on December 3rd and finally called the vendor on 12/19 after hearing nothing. The vendor told me that they no longer do work with Colonial as they don't pay them, and when they do, it is very slow. It... More...

  • Terrible Service

Absolutely the worst. Totally regret getting sucked into purchasing the home warranty. I have submitted 3 different claims since I got this contract and NOTHING has been done. The first one was for my A/C unit. Took 3 referred contracts to finally come out. Now I have to come up with $600 for a leak inspection. Then another claim for my dishwasher. They referred 3 contractors and they either didn't call me, call me back or show up for an appt. Pending almost 2 months. The last claim was for my oven which started sparking on Thanksgiving day. One referred contractor never... More...

  • Colonial Home Warranty Complaint

Due to the fraudulent nature of this business, ( They called the manufacturer and claimed to be my husband) to get free parts and then wouldn't cover the cost to put the part in, I cancelled the policy. Also because it took them entire month to respond to the tech they sent out and I paid not to mention the customer service is rude and you are not able to speak to anyone above them. I cancelled on the 23rd of Oct. It is now Nov. 12th I am getting a refund because i paid in full and was told it would take 5-7 days.. I still don't a refund. Don't buy into this company, find a... • David Black, Alabama AC Unit

I filed a claim in May on repair of my AC unit. Colonial sent me two AC companies who they said could do the repair. Both companies said they would not work for this company as they were not paid for their work. (David) told me to get someone to fix the AC and send them a bill. I do so and have been hasseled for 5 months with every excuse they could come up with, They will not call you about the claim but just waite until you call them. These folks are COM MEN for sure. • Colonial finds every loop hole- read the fine print BEFORE you pay

I purchased Colonial's warranty for 2 homes. When I needed them 8 months into it, I found that none of our air conditioning companies wanted to work with them. It took them over 3 weeks in the first heat of summer to get someone out to look at my air conditioner. By the time they got someone there, the coolant had run out and the system was broken. When I called, it just was not as cool as it should have been, but it was working. They did not cover it because the coolant was supposedly leaking from the reverse valve, which they did not cover. Funny, the reverse valve is a major... More...

  • Water Heater issue

I have an issue with water heater pilot (goes off every 3-4 hour) in my rental unit. I notified Collonial about the issue about a week ago and they sent a plumber to check it. When plumber was there water heater pilot was on and he left without doing anything. I called Collonial again this morning to repoen the claim, I was told they will repopen the case again and have a contractor come and check it today. I had to call back 4 times, every time they take the information and ... nothing happens. Meanwhile, my tebnant is without hot water. Waste of money. I paid for full year otherwise I... More...

  • HELP!!

After doing a lot of research we were convinced by Marc Gold at Colonial Home Warranty that they had the best plan and a large list of technicians in my area. We signed up in April of 2013 and have been paying $69 per month. In August 1, 2013, we contacted Colonial and opened up two claims (#2166117 for the Range Oven and #216618 for the Clothes Washer). The claims were assigned first to Rose Appliance Sales who told us that they wanted to get paid upfront because they were not paid by Colonial in the past. We were then assigned to Todd Appliance who told us that they no longer work for... More...

  • Kenmore broken part in washer.

This company is the biggest rip off around. DO NOT get involved with them. I tired to get a small part on my washing machine fixed and they told me it was under warranty - which is definitely is not as I checked with the manufacturer. The basket on the washer has a lifetime guarantee, but not any other part. This company's excuse was that as far as anything connected to the washer (any part), it is under the company warranty, (sound fishy to you??). This is the poorest excuse I've ever had of from a home warranty company - all they want is your money and then not fix things... More...

  • Garage Door

I have had to report my gargage door opener twice and each time the tech comes out and it starts working. The Home Warranty people make me pay additional deductible each time and no one trys to locate the issue that causes the door not to open, just say it is working at the time. Then Colonial Home Warranty says they have to close the claim and are extremely rude. My issue has not been fixed as of yet. I will not renew with them and will not recommend them. More...

  • Broken Washer and Terrible Customer Service

This company is a joke, please don't purchase a plan from them. Their managers are very rude and will tell you anything to get you off the phone. They don't honor your claims. I waited a whole two weeks for them to contact me concerning a claim on my washing machine only for them to tell me that I had to contact a technician myself to come out because they could not find a tech to service my area. When i inquired as to why no one contacted me, they said they attempted to contact me via phone and no one answered, so they left the claim open until they heard back from me. WTF! Let... More...

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT BUY A WARRANTY FROM THIS COMPANY EVER!!!!! worst service I have ever had dealing with a warranty company. Our upstairs unit stopped cooling. After having the unit checked with who they sent out and being out over $200.00 for the service call and also the leak test, still nothing being done. They called to say the needed maintenance records for the last 2 years so that has been provided. They then denied the claim because the AC tech showed adding 1 lb of Freon to the unit and called it pre-existing condition. I have been very disappointment in this whole... More...

  • Busted A/C, Colonial Conveniently Pays $0

Very disappointed. I've had Colonial for a few years and never filed a claim. Had my A/C unit go out...very old unit and finally went. Hoping for the best, I got them involved and filed. Long story short...they kept asking me for documents and information until they could justify not covering anything. So I'm about $4500 to replace the unit they won't help. Really felt like they did everything in their power to avoid assisting with any of the costs. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DON'T USE COLONIAL. THEY WON'T HELP! More...

  • 2nd Rejected Claim

I had to file a claim with Colonial on my 2 1/2 year old Samsung Front loader washer because a code came up that read, "call for service". Washer is brand new, never had service and I did not think Colonial would turn down fixing it like they did our a/c, which cost us $6800.00 to fix. Well, I was wrong!! Good old Colonial, who loves to take advantage of their contact that is vague and written to THEIR ADVANTAGE AND DENIED TO CLAIM!! Listen to the loophole they used to CHEAT THEIR CUSTOMER AGAIN!!. • They screwed me too

I had an A/C go out 5 months after purchasing a Colonial Home Warranty for $398.50 and they refused my claim because I was unable to provide a home inspection report, I did however provide a report from a licensed HVAC engineer certifying my unit to be in normal working order 2 months after the house purchase date. After 5 weeks and \the first technician that failed to turn up at all, I now have a very upset tenant (95 degrees here) Colonial are refusing to cover repair costs due to the absence of the home inspection report. At no time when taking my money did they advise that it all... More...

  • Screwed us

We purchased Colonial Home Warranty last Oct, after having Allied Home warranty for over 3 years. Allied encouraged their customers to have their a/c/heating unit checked every Spring and Winter, by only charging $60.00 copay to have the service provider out to check the unit. I did not keep my paperwork that it was serviced. Our outside unit went out 8 months after our being a customers of Colonial, it was out for 6 days, as they wanted me to provide maint. records. Now, their own service man (whom they contract with)did not say my unit was neglected, abused or anything, just that the... More...

  • Colonial Home Warranty lack of service / lack of paying for claims

Colonial Home warranty does EVERYTHING they can to not pay for service. It took a full week for them to review our request to have our A/C fixed, then deny service because we did not have our system cleaned twice a year - somewhere in fine print it says we need to properly have our system maintained and we failed by not having it serviced - on our nickel, twice a year. HORRIBLE company. We used Old Republic in the past and kicking myself that we switched to save some money - now it is costing us a lot. • Whirlpool broken dishwasher

I followed the Colonial Home warranty process...I paid to have their repair person to come out and look at my dishwasher. He stated that the pump/motor was bad and stated he would submit that information to Colonial. I heard from them weeks later telling me that they would not cover the pump/motor because there was still a manufacturer's warranty on the dishwasher and because the property was vacant. I contacted them immediately to explain that the property was a vacation home and was not vacant and that the motor/pump was not still under warranty. They stated that the door and tub... More...

  • Refuses to repair !

When I purchased 5 warranty policies from Colonial HOme Warranty, I mistakenly thought I would not have to worry about repairs for my home or my rental properties. Within the last year, Colonial has refused to repair an HVAC system based on poor mechanical advise from so-called technicians who advised me to replace the unit...which was supposedly warranteed by Colonial! Long story short, It cost ME almmost $800 to repair the unit because Colonial refused to do it, plus the $90 for their two house calls. Recently, my tenant reported noise coming from the dryer. • Colonial Home Warranty -- Customer Service

I am a Colonial Home Warranty customer and am currently under a 3-year contract. (I am in no way affiliated with any home warranty company and am just an average homeowner with my only "agenda" being that I would like fairness and professionalism from the companies with which I do business. Having said that, I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with Colonial's Customer Service. I have finally given in to their completely unreasonable "Buyout" offer in lieu of repair or replacement of my dishwasher because I can see that there is absolutely zero chance of reasoning, let... • HVAC problem...don't expect Colonial to fix it!

I totally agree with Scook127. This is a horrible home warranty company and I definitely won't renew my contract. Here are a couple of examples of their poor customer service. Washing machine wasn't working correctly. I called Colonial and the rep said because the washing machine was actually functioning, it wasn't covered on the claim...they don't cover 'malfunctions' only non functioning equipment. If it had broken down completely it 'may have been' covered. Now if it does stop working, it wouldn't be covered because I was responsible for... More...

  • Sears broken washing machine

I called to get help with my washing machine and it took several calls to get a repairman to the house. The contractors they work with are none responsive. We had to call 3 time and received 3 different contractors who in the end didn't show up. We ended up finding our own technician. Once we received the repair quote it was for a gear case, clutch and coupling, but since the washer had a ten year warranty on the tub, which wasn't the issue, they didn't want to fix the other items in fear it would void the tub warranty. The other reviews are spot-on. DO NOT PURCHASE A POLICY WITH COLONIAL. As the other reviewer mentioned, corporate basically doesn't exist. The call center refuses to put you in contact with anyone who will help you. They claim the only way to reach corporate is an email address, which does not get responded to. • Lies and Deception

On December 21, 2012, I put in a claim to have my oven repaired. The oven portion of my stove would not light. Colonial assigned a contractor to handle the job. The contractor came out, assessed the problem, and told me he would order the parts, and get back to me. After 2 weeks had passed I called Colonial home Warranty, and they said one of their representatives would call me back. Finally after another call to Colonial, 3 days later, I received a call back saying my claim had been denied because the problem was caused because of a "power surge". This seemed extremely peculiar... More...

  • Serivce Repair - Rip Off

This company has the most unprofessional contractors, customer service reps, and supervisors. My experience is as follows: The contractor came to my home to fix my dishwasher. After examining my dishwasher he concluded that I needed a new one and he was going to request that Colonial replace my current one. After which, he demanded that I pay him in cash for the service fee ($55). When I told him that I only had a check as a form of payment his attitude changed. I'm in the process of pursuing a lawsuit (most likely a class lawsuit) against this company for the following reasons: no direct access to headquarters office, intentionally made it difficult for customers to escalate issues, no response, i.e. not even a confirmation of customer's communication, coercion of signing their payback contract without any alternatives, unfair practices, etc . I would not recommend this home warranty company to anyone !!! I had an undetected pipe leak that caused a more pronounced leak around where the pipe comes up from the tank. They have their policy worded so well that they do not cover any "tank issues". this was not a tank issue. This was explained to Colonial by myself and my plumbing contractor. I even offered to send pictures but they would not hear of it. So obviously whatever kind of claim I file will probably not be covered.
